Result of First Count

THE ISSUE DOUBTFUL.

(By Electric Telegraph .—-Copyright.) (Anstraliaii-N.Z. Cable Association.) Received Last Night, 5.5 o'clock. SYDNEY, March 21. The returns of the first count leave the election issue very doubtful. While all the parties are atill confident of winning, the Opposition 'stands an excellent chance of securing a majority. Tho Hon. W. A. Holman's position at Cootamunda is not yet secure. Messrs McGirr and Loughlin, tho Labourites, have a long lead, while tho Progressive candidate is running very close for tho third seat. Mr. Holman's summary on the present figures gives tho position of the parties as follows: Nationalists 42 Labour 36 Progressives 8 Doubtful •* 4 There was a poor Metropolitan vote, and the number of informal votes was very high.

THE LATEST BETURNS.

Received This Morning, 1.25 o'clock. SYDNEY, March 21. The, latest election figures indicate the return of twenty-nine Nationalists, thirty-nine Labour, ten Progressives, two Indpendent Nationalists, three Independent Labour, and seven doubtful ■'•.... * The Labour Pary.estimates the position will be fifty Labourites, twefctyfive Nationalists, and fifteen Progrea sives.
