DATES OF COMING EVENTS

NEW ZEALAND January I—Great1 —Great Northern Derby

(By "Also Started.")

The Manawatu Racing Club's Summer meeting was the most successful in the history of the Club. The fields were large, the quality of the horses good, and the racing* highly interesting. This progressive club is fast becoming one of the most up-to-date racing institutions in the Dominion. Bandiera was the star performer at the Manawatu meeting, the son of Royal Artillery accomplishing his task each day like a racehorse. In the Stakes he made hacks of Ermengarde and Glauiole, two more than useful sprinters. Mr "riighden" must feel highly satisfied with his purchase of Exject, as by his win in Handicap the Advance eoJ%,;must be regarded as a bargain. Trainer Price has worked considerable improvement in the bay colt. His* next appearance will be at Marton, when he and Sir Knox- should have issue of the Marten. Cup between them. Sir showed good form at Palmerston, and should be greatly improved by the racing. He was badly cut aboujt during the running of the Manawatu : Cup, meeting with a lot of interference. He showed no 111— effects, hpwevjer, and. running on well in the Liverpool Handicap. The son,,,©! Sir Laddo will be a very tough proposition in the Marton Cup, more especially if to come from Auckland to ride him. The .locally owned First Consul, who w,as run into by a motor car on the day of the Manawatu Cup, is recovering rapidly from the injuries received, and should soon be on the tracks again.\ Prior to leaving for PalmerstonN. Bandeira put up a sensational gailop over five furlongs. Such being the case his • backers received a surprisingly g°°d dividend. Sinapis ran a nice race in. the Liverpool Handicap at .Manawatu. The New Zealand • Cup winner looks well ,and if started at Tauherenikau should run well in the big event," for which Kilrain will probably start favourite. ,

Master Lupin was taken through to Marton by Trainer_Hatch yesterday. The defeat" of the .Lupin gelding a,t Taratahi was a > severe blow to ; the punting fraternity, who thought he had only to go out to win. Chillies, the winner, always had the race in hand, and it would not be to see her turn out a good one. Being by Achilles from Bellicent, she lacks nothing on the score: of breeding. Chillies in the.Mokai Welter at Tauherenikau, in which she will have to carry a fTen pound penalty, which brings her weight up to 9st lib. ■''■'.

Sarbonite, a, 4 year gelding by Sar-acen-Waitura, and a full brother to Suratura, promises to; develop .into something .useful. He is' a fine upstanding gelding ,and performed well at thei Taratahi meeting ,and "many thought he defeated Riga-Park A in the Gladstone Hack r 'eltei:: The: judge's ruling /was a. dead Jieat, but Sarbonite- seemed to have/* just got there ; He should soon get on the winning list. , ~. / Killaloo seems untrainahTe. After a' considerable absence from the racecourse, he was produced at Taratahi, but ran in the ruck, all the way. ~

I Ovation, Birkenhe'ad-Stepfejt, has (apparently improved since, going to. Auckland, and, a race fell; to Mr ! B|3ivilFs cast-off on Monday./ [['.. /■/■■{■'&■ : '';

With the present ing ,there will be a at the Tauherenikau fixture ■ to-ini^-row and on Friday. The'fie.Wl l mise to be satisfactory ,and iajWresfc ing "racing should result. ; ! :; :\ ( ; The Wairarapa Cup. should .produce-; a fine race, as several of the candidates have shown good form .of late; Sinapis 8.12, and Kilrain 8.8 r shoiM take some beating. ;V . . In the Tuhitarata Handicap, Siiratura 7.4, should, on her Taratahi form, run very proinineritly. ; fhe Great Mogul will be her strongest opponent. ... , '. '.••■':'.''";•..^■.-.' »■.■;••, The Summit, if, started h\ii\xe >Bim- 1 utaka Handicap f should rtinvweli-for- j WarcL Braeburn will be rese ved for the second lie will contest thebig handicap. , It is' worthy to note that before Woodville, Braeburn was for sale for £l5O. An oSer for £4OO 'was turned down by the-SirvLaddo gelding's' owner at Palmerston last -week. •', Reputation will find Parlovna- * his hardest opponent in the. Nursery Handicap. The distance, four furlongs, should suit Mr , Bidwili's- colt, to a nicety- • . In the Pukio Hack there is an even field of sprinters, of which Listen and Submersion seem the best. Several useful welter iho rse s a|e, engaged in the Reynold's Handicap, ; seven furlongs.. '' Black Lupin is i' in good form'just now, while Sar'toyna will, probably start favourite', and with 7.8 should go; close to winning. Sarbonite and Chillies have ? each received penalties in the Mokai Welter, but the former looks- well able to carry weight, and if the racing lie had at Taratahi agreed with him, lie should take a lot of beating.

Train arrangements for the fixture are very convenient, and sports will have no difficulty in reaching the course. Motorcars, taxis-and busses will; as usual, carry large numbers to Tauherenikau by road. '

A patron of H.. Pritchaxd's Lansdowne stable purchased Ainsdale at the sale of thoroughbreds from Karanui, which took place at Palmerston on Monday. Ainsdale lias been blistered, and. will erijoy-a spell before racing again. »■" ' '
