AMERICAN ATHLETES.

ARRIVAL IN MASTERTON

The American athletes, who are to compete at the Wairarapa Caledonian Society's annual sports meeting tomorrow, arrived in Masterton yester.day. The party included Major Peixotto (manager), and Messrs R. R. Templeton, G. L. Parker, J. A. Power and E. R. Caughey. They were met at the railway station by officials of the Wairarapa Caledonian Society and Amateur Athletic Club, and at the Council Chambers were accorded a. civic reception, Mr F, W. Temple (deputyMayor), and Mr J. Coradine jun., welcoming the visitors on behalf of the citizens of Masterton and the Amateur Athletic Club respectively. Major Peixottb briefly acknowledged the welcome.

Mr L. J. Marks, the Well-known Auckland athlete.was also of the party, and he will be competing in running events to-morrow. Great interest is being evinced in the appearance of the crack American athletes, and their performances on the Park Oval will be the feature of the Caledonian Society's sports. It is unfortunate that we are not to witness G-. L. Parker on the track, as this, member of the party is perhaps the most brilliant springer we have yet had .in New Zealand. .The remaining members of the team, however, are high class performers, so that performances above the average may bo expected. .The following is the personnel of the team :— • ■
