WIN FOR NEW ZEALANDERS, MARGIN OF TWELVE RUNS.
(Received Last Night, 9.40 o'clock.) BRISBANE, December 22. The New Zealauders defeated Queensland by twelve runs. The match was resumed in fine, warm weather, in the presence of a small attendance* The wicket was good. New Zealand, with four wickets down in the second innings, continued.
Reese accompanied Taylor to the wickets, but was out (clean bowled) in Barstow's first over.
Robinson and Taylor then made a stand. Robinson scored rapidly, and had the honour of hoisting the century. Becoming over eager, he went out to Downey, and was stumped. Taylor appeared set, when he returned a ball to Downey, who accepted. Sandman jumped out at a tempting thing and was stumped. Bennett played a brilliant innings, and had the misfortune to go out leg before to Barstow. The score increased to 161 when Patrick, who played sure cricket,.was caught by Rowe at leg, off Barstow. Queensland opened the second innings badly, Fennelly being clean bowled by Robinson's first ball. Farquhar and Rowe succumbed to Reese—3 for 7.
Prout and Marshall checked the rout, and the fourth wicket fell at 51.
The fielding of the visitors was very good, Hickmott being particularly brilliant.
The bowling was difficult, and at 71 the fifth wicket fell. ,- Two others went down before the score increased, Sandman securing three wickets within a few minutes.
Queensland's chances of winning were considerably diminished by the fine fielding of the visitors. A smart return by Reese resulted in Barstow being run out, and the last wicket fell leaving the visitors victors. The scores are as follow: NEW ZEALAND. The weather was hot and the wicket good for the continuation of the Sheffield Shield match. - South Australia, in the second innings, made 290 runs, Rundell being not out for 47, and Kirkwood 36. ]New South Wales, in their second innings, have lost 7 wickets for 197 runs, Bardsley (41), Macartney (54), Tnraper (18), Davis (22) and Andrews (12) being the main scorers.
