A Sydney cable announces the death of the Rev. A. B. Davies, the Jewish Rabbi 'in that city, at the age of 82 years. The Grey mouth Star reports the death of another old! pioneer in the person of Mr Alfred Ball, at the ripe age of 84 years. Miss Betty Purdon, the well-known Wellington elocutionist, will contribute Items at the Wairarapa Caledonian. Society's concert on New Year s night. Mr Frank O'Sullivan wa-s in Mastertdn yesterday, making arrangements for the appearance of the Merry Widow Company in the Town Mall on January sth, in "The Arcadians." , The occurred at Featherston on Monday of Mrs Miller, wife of Mr D. Miller, Inspector of the Postal Department, and mother of Mr W. G. Miller, of the Featheiston branch of the Bank of New Zealand. A Wellington telegram announces the death of Mr John Gammell, 8.A,, at the age of 78 years. The deceased was formerly inspector of schools io. Southland 'and West land, and a distinguished Biblical and theological authority. ♦Word has been received in Martinborough of the death of Mr James Gammie, at the age of 33 years, in thevTimaru Hospital. The late Mr Gammie was well-known in the Lower "Valley, and married a daughter of Mr Alexander (Glen) McLeod, who will have the sympathy of a wide circle of friends. ~ AnotiTer pioneer passed away at the Wellington Hospital on Sunday, in the person. of Mr Joshua Chapman, an old resident of Wellington and Ohariu. _Mr Cliapman, who had reached his ninetieth year, arrived in Wellington by the ship Westminster 5 in 1856, and resided at Pipitea Point for many years, afterwards removing to Ohariu.
