THE LYTTELTON SEAT.

So far as the Reform "Party is concerned, there is very little significance attached to the contest for the Lyttelton seat. This electorate has been represented by a Radical for a number of years, and is composed largely of wharf : lumpers and city porkers who have had Socialism and Red Fedism drummed into, their ears At almost every street corner. It would be little short of a miracle, therefore, if the Reform Party were to capture the seat. The so-called Liberals, however, arq very much concerned in tne result. If they are beaten by a Social Democrat, it will be a clear indication that whatever prestige they have held in the electorate in recent years has evaporated. They have all the advantage of a "sympathy'vote," and of the support of Christchureh members. If they should fail under these circumstances they will sustain the- severest shock that has come their way since the memorable awakening of 1911.
