(By "Also Started.") The Woodville Racing Club's summer meeting will engage the attention of sportsmen on Wednesday and Thursday next. Very satisfactory .acceptances have been received for the meeting, and with many wellknown Derformers engaged, the gathering should l),o a pronounced sue-., cess. .'" R. Knox will take Sir Knox, Manitau and Kakawai to the Woodville meeting. The former, who will have the services of R. Berry in the saddle, looks big and burly,.and his .appearance would indicate that his short season at the stud has done the son of Sir Laddo a lot of good. He has been responsible for very work of late, and went very nicely over a.mile and a distance on Saturday morning). Kakawai is a maiden performer, and will make her debut to the turf on Wednesday. . Being by Benzonian from Platypus, sh* should turn <"h good. ■'■■;', Manitau never 'looked better, and as" he has a partiality for the Woodville course, may be expected to run well in his engagements. L. Wilson will have the mount on Mr Stonewigg'a gelding. .>■•'. .:. The dam >of Sir Knox has thrown,-a nice colt foal to Benzonian.
■Merrie Rd.se, a useful performer in her day, threw twin foals to Benzonion, hut neither survived. The Merrie England -mare visits Benzonian agajn. ' # Mias-' 'Trumps, the Boris-r-No Tramps filly in R. Knox's stable, is again in active commission, and will compete in the juvenile events at Tauherenikau. Trainer T. Higgins has had an addition to his team uvytlie shape of a gelding by Renown. Higgiiiis has taken over Top Note from Mr H. Nee. In future the San Fran mare will race in her trainer's colours. Tom Pritchard ami his brother Harry, have taken over the stablerpreviously occupied by J. Cress, and have commenced operations as public trainers, with a two-year-old colt by 'Conqueror, and a filly by Lupin out of Liddyte. Sir Solo; is improving daily, and is striding out- well in his work. The Sir Laddo gelding has been paid up, for in the Auckland: Cup, and is fancied locally for that event. ■Personally,' I'think lie can have little, chance in the big two miles event, having done no racing since last sea-; son. As lie is nominated at"Manar watu, it maybe that his owner has not definitely decided to send the bay gelding nortli. Fit and well, Sir Solo •would take some beating in any company with 7.10 on his back. Guiding Way is spoken of as likely to run well in the Woodville Handicap. As his connections have been satisfied to pay up with the son of Fontenqy in the Auckland Cup, his chances at Woridville cannot be un-der-rated. The Tauherenilcau Racing Club has received very satisfactory nominations for its summer meeting, and if Los Angjelos, Bronue, Sinapas,- Iminpr, Ariom and Co., are present, the racing should be decidedly interesting. With Repttation, Mr W. E. Bid will would appear to hold a mortgage over the juvenile events at Tauherenilcau. The Wellington Racing Club ia .rapidly advancing, and it may be only a matter of a year or two when this body will be a" worthy rival of the Canterbury and Auckland clubs. The Welling, Club will disburse £IO,OOO in stakes at its summer meeting, when the Wellington Cup will be endowed with £IOOO. . The Masterton Racing Club has allotted £I7OO for its' summer meeting, £250 being the value of the Waipipi Cup. All the hack events have-been increased,' making the programme quite attractive. _ . ■ The trotting events- at the Tara-tahi-Cartertoh "Club's Boxing'-Pay ! meeting have filled exceptionally well, and lead one to think that this club might act wisely in converting ,the fixture into a meeting for trotters only. The Wairarapa' County Cup has attracted a poor field of six,v a nd with Byron out of it, those engaged can have no pretensions to class. The hack events have filled rather better and the meeting, having the advantage of being held on a holiday, may be a greater success than the nominations would lead one to anicipate. Excellent entries have been received for the Manawatu Club's summer meeting. Class is well represented, and the racing promises to be highly interesting. Selection, a double winner at the recent Takapuna meeting, is owned and trained by J. Chishoini, whb some years ago raced Skye in this district Since going to Auckland, Chisholm has met with a fair share of success, a fact which will be pleasing to his friends in Masterton.
