MR CONGDON REPLIES.

(To the Editor)

Sir, —Kindly allow me to correct a few of the errors into which your correspondent "Special" would have your readers fall. (1) I have not changed my opinions, and I never made the statement about which "Special" claims to have been informed ; (2) I have not resigned from the Mastertrm Cricket Cflub, or any other club, nor have I any intention of doing so. The following is a copy of my official statement to the Masterton Cricket Club: "To the Secretary, —Dear Sir.—Please take notice that I will not be available for selection in your cricket teams for 'the present." I did not state my reasons 1 , as I recognised that, had I done so, the club's committee would have been

called upon, to disCuss them, and subsequently to havo made the choice of the players concerned'. "Special" will siee by this that h.iw remarks re ability are unjust and unworthy of a man who would aspire to judge his fellow-men's actions, or set examples. As regards my brilliancy, "Special" must have wandered on to the wrong page of the ("ictionaiy; unless, ;«.s I take it, his remarks are meant to be caustic. lam no agitator iu any cause.. What J have decided on *in conscientious, and as such i fear no impugnment from writers such as "Special"' or "Reason," who have not the backbone to sign a name by which they may be known . In conclusion, I wish to state that I will not answer any further, correspondence on this subject—a fact which, no doubt, "Reason" and "Special" will take full advantage of. Thanking yom, Mr Editor.—l am, etc A CONGDON. Masterton, Dec. sth, 1913.
