AVIATION AT AUCKLAND.
ACCIDENT TO A BIPLANE. THE MACHINE WRECKED. , (By Telegraph—tmt Auociation.} ' AUCKLAND, Last Night. A short trial flight Was made ■at Avondale this morning by Mr Sandford in a , Sandford-Miller biplane. The planes of the machine had been' considerably soaked by recent heavy rains, and were consequently very heavy , but Mr Saijdford decided to test the flying capacity of the ma-chine-under such conditions. He took the plane to a considerable height, circled the racecourse, -and set out in the direction of New Lynn. He found, however, that the soaked planes made the machine's movements heavy. After traversing a mile, he made a descent without mishap.' Later, in taking the machine out of a paddock, he struck a fence when going about sixtymiles • hour, and the machine was practically wrecked. The injuries of the aviator, who was thrown thirty feet, are not yet known.
