SPORTING NOTES.

FIXTUUKS: December 20—Taratahi-Cai lei'ton, R.C., Slimmer. December 26, 29, January 1, 2 A.R.O. Summer December 26, 27—Thames J.O. Summer. DATES OF COMING EVENTS. NEW ZEALAND December 26—Auckland Cup. December 27—Auckland Trotting Cup. January I—Great Northern Derby. (By "Also Started.") Tho Foilding Jockey Club's summer mooting, notwithstanding that the weather was unfavourable, was highly successful. Tho totalisator returns sliewed a big increase on those of last year, but evon these figures should have been considerably increased, a,« hundreds' of pounds must have lwen shut out. The indifferent handling of tho totalisator rather marred an otherwise splendid meeting.

Postillion looked big on the first day at Foilding, and the race evidently sharpened tho son of Advance up, aa he won from a good field the second day. Postillion will now have to carry a 51b penalty for tho Railway Handicap at Auckland, bringing his weight up to 8.10. Peroneal showed up well for over a mile in the St. Andrew's Handicap, and shduld win a race soon, when the handicapped is not too severe on her. Leapuki showed a lot of pace in his races at Feilding, but the company was too select. Leapuki should win a stake during the Xmas meetings-

The locally owned Ctfnziska could not i act in the going at Feilding, and was railed homevoa tSfimday; The 1 Conqueror gelding looked well, but he is plainly not a top ncrtcher. Fißst-Consul, who is trained for a local sportsman, by B. Watson at Awapuni, looked really well at Feeding, and after giving an exhibition of buckjumping finished up fourth on the firAt day. On his second start he was runner-up to Draft, and paid ft nice price.- Th° Conqueror gelding should win soon. R. Bei'ryV in riding Lady Laddo to victory in the St. Andrew's Handicap, secured his second successive win in this event, he having gained the verdict on Mira last year. Lady Laddo ran on well, and is at present at the top of her form. Master the runner-up, should be hard to dispose of at Woodville next week.

Sir Solo is fast coming back to form J and has been responsible for good j work on the tracks at Opaki. After being raced at Woodville, he will be taken to Auckland to contest the Chip , and other big events at the summer meeting of the Auckland Racing Club. Nominations are due on Thursday for the summer meeting of the Manawatu Racing Olub, and for the Wairarapa and Taratahi-Carterton meetings on Friday. On the same day nominations are due for the minor events at Auckland, also for the Hawke's Bay and Marton Clubs' summer meetings. The Diver promises to be more than useful as a hurdler. He is a rare jumper, and having plenty of pace, should pay hi® way well. At a mile and a half ho will prove a tough proposition.

After & spell of bad luck, the ."HighdenV stable met with considerable success at Feilding, Ermengarde, Gai'-j&ce'arid Beftrada saluting the judge. The former made a runaway racovof the Feilding Stakes. Trainer Price came in for a lot of congratulations at the turn- in his luck. Pariform, the two-year-old halfbrother to Nyland and Boanerges, is much in the boom on the West Coast, and promises to see a short price next timeout ' H. Telford intends leaving Palmerston North shortly, and will move to Trentham, where he will have a number of horses under his care.

Merry Guy wag not taken to Feilding. Ariom was heavily backed at Feild.ing, but after being prominent for a mile, faded right out. The Morriweo mare evidently had enough rac-* ing at tho Cup meeting, and will probably require freshening up. WAIRARAPA RACING CLUB. ■ The Stammer meeting of the Wairarapa Racing Club takes place on the Tauherenikau raceeour&e on Janu:nrv Ist fir*'! 2nd. are_ few JBOXe popular meetings in the North Island than Tauherenikau, and dur-ing-tho past few years tho club has made considerable progress. The course itself and. the grounds a f p« regarded with favour by racing men and the sporting public, and with substantial stakes allotted in the 'various events, the racing is always of a liigh •rder. The stakes for the forthcoming meeting amount to~ £2225, £4OO being allotted to tho Wairarapa Cup, 1-i miles, and £250 to the Tauherenikau Handicap, 1 mile and a run on the second day. Reynold's Handicap, 7 furlongs, run on the first day, is worth £l5O, and the Nursery Handicap, for two and three-year-old*, £l3O. On the second day the Juvenile Handicap ia valued at £l2O, and the Russell Handicap at 150 &ovs. The remaining hack events are all endowed with 100 sovs., .so that the whole* .programme reads attractively, and the club may confidently look forward to a, success-
