TROOPS CALLED OUT,

BERLIN. Nov. 30. There have been renewed disturbances at Zabern (Alsace-Lorraine). Citizens bustled officers, who. called out the guard. The front ran!.-> of the soldiers Knelt ,and threatened to fire uiless the streets were cleared. The crowd fled, the soldiers using the butt-end of their rifles. Forty .arrests were mnde, including two Magistrates. Officers were unable to appear on the streets without a guard with fixed bayonets. Unofficial versions accuse the military of violent excesses. The public demand ths removal of the 9th Regiment. The authorities are much concerned and have ordered an inquiry.

The situation at Zabern has undergone a series of extraordinary developments. Liout. Von Foerstner and" four officers were crossing from the barracks overlooking the Schlogs Plata, when they met a number of students leaving the continuation school '• in the same square. One boy, recognising Lieut. Von Foerstner, shouted-out a woi'd having reference to manoeuvre affairs, in which Lieut. Von Foerstner was implicated. . Overhearing the insult, Lieut. Schalt summoned four armed soldiers,, who chased and captured the of fender, whdtm they -narched to the' barracks yard-, from where ho escaped. 'Meanwhile a large crowd had assembled, and heard the roll drum inside the barracks.' ' :■■■
Afterwards, on Colonel Von Renter's orders, sixty soldiers, with rifles loaded and bayonets fixed, emerged from the front ranks and knelt down as if ready to fire. Women and childern fled. Some men entered shops and houses, while "others refused to'niove. " ' ■'■:'

The officers, turning to several soldiers, .exclaimed "Arrest that wan." > "When the Schloss Plate was 'cleared, the soldiers returned to the, barracks, but it was announced officially that patrola would be sent at intervals to keep the streets dear, to enable officers returning to their; liomes, to arrest anyone who insulted them.
(Subsequently the Grown Prosecutor and three other officers of the Court were released at the instance of the President of the Court.
The remaining twenty-six apen.t the night in the\cold, da-np coal cellars of the barracks, foodless, and without covering, and treated as the worst criminals. ■■-'.■
