PONGAROA ATHLETIC CLUB
The Annual sports gathering of the .Pongaroa Athletic Club, which takes place this year on Boxing Day, promises to eclipse any previous gathering yet held by the club.. The. programme or' events set down for cornpetition would do credit to any club in the Dominion. The athletic events tor which substantial-cash prizes are include practically every branch of athletics, with the exception of cycling. Running races from 50yds to ,one mile, walking races, * quoit handicaps, tug-of-war, chopping and sawing contests, and numerous other contests go to provide one of the most comprehensive athletic programmes of "the year. The Highland events include all the most popular piping and dancing events, and a sailors' hornpipe and an Irish jig are also included. And last> but not least, come the horse events, i which are sure to be well contested. The nominations for the chief athletic events are due on , December 17th, and should be addressed to the secretary (Mr W. Souness). In theevening a grand concert and dance wll ke held, and should prove a fit- ; till}* termination to a good day's outing.
