MR P. C. WEBB.
A few months ago, when the Grey election was in full swing, and there was a prospect of the Reform candidate being sent to Parliament, the Greymouth papers did their very utmost to secure a victory for Mr P. C. Webb. They succeeded. And now what have they to say about him ? This is an extract from a recent ussue of the Grey River Argus: "Mr P. C. Webb, who is the member for this district, but to all intents and purposes, only represents the views and policy of the Red Fed. executive, is full of the same sort of prejudice as Mr Veitch. Neither has a kind word for anybody outside the ranks of Labour. According to t their doctrine, there is nothing in this world that can be trusted to be .noble, generous, or truthful. Mr Webb is given to harping on the fact that the Red Federation is a legally registered body, as if that carried with it tlie privilege of turning the country topsy-turvy by stopping industry and closing the ports. Mr Webb is vehemently eloquent as to the legal rights and privileges of the Red Feds., but he studiously avoids all reference to the diabolical injustices they inflict upon an unoffending community. Could anything be more barbarous or disgraceful than to try to starve a whole community because some 32 shipwrights are not granted travelling allowance when a twopenny tram can take them to work every morning?"
