MAUNGANUI HELD UP.
vmBKK' AND SEAMEN'COME "OUT." WELLINGTON, Last Night. An unexpected hitch occurred this evening in connection with the sailing of the Maunganui for Lyttelton. Early in the evening the firemen came ashore, having been called "out" by the union. The seamen indicated that-fKey would not work if Arbitration men were put into the stokehold, and it is said there was a lively discussion among ' Arbitra-t,ionis-t.s as to taking tip the work at the money offered. Eventually, however, a crew was .secured for. the stokehold, but a<& tliey marched up
the gangway, just before 8 o'clock, the seamen came off. The stewards of the ship had said they would not work it" Arbitraftonists came on board but changed their minds, only one (a union official) leaving the ship. Captains and officers living here were pressed into service as eeamen, and it is expected that the Maunganui will get awayjate. The seamen, it is understood, did not want to come out here, as they lose a good deal in wages, but would probably have left the ship at Sydney.
