IN FASHION'S REALM.
UP-TO-DATE NOTES ON WHAT TO WEAR. I have already spoken of the coat blouse. This is a coat of slightly greater length than revealed, square across front, then with sloping sides, and rounded tail-like back. Worn with a check skirt it is good, in which ca.se the check in collar and for cuff. Every form of over-collar from vest I see* attracts me, and this ia as pretty as most. The stepped closing is another commendable feature. By the way, on going over some old matter, I chanced upon one of those sleeve garters with posy. No doubt you remember thorn. Is it not possible to wear a dainty type with some of the modes now? "Everything you write ig on tnc assumption that all women are Venuses:" My friend, who looks at the weighing-scale with a shudder, is thinking of the picture. All fashion drawings have to obey a standard, and must be slender to illustrate lines. Venus, let me say, was not slender, though I'll not dogmatise, never having met her. Well, the stout must follow certain rules, and much will depend on age. Some can wear light colours becomingly enough but not manv. The right choice is dark, although why black should always be favoured is a bit of u mystery. Any dark colour wiil do conditionally that it matches your hair and complexion.. Glossy materials, such as satins, andtthose with a tough hairy surface should be eschewed, also stiff, wiry fabrics. Dull, soft, clinging materials are those to choose. Chiffon or ninon is especially becoming. Narrow strikes are to be cultivated, also ribbed fabrics when the rib rung downwards or diagonally. Anything spotty or casual in the way of trimmings should be avoided, such as imedallions of lace dotted at intervals of bows and resettes stuck here and there. Neatness and trimness must be the keynote of the costume.
