DOMINION PRODUCE ASSOCIATION.
MEETING OF BOARD OF OON- ' TROL. WELLINGTON, Wednesday. A meeting of,the New Zealand Board, of Control of the Bristol and! Dominion Producers' Association was held here to-day. Mr E. J. Colley, of; Wellington, was appointed secre-: tary. A considerable amount of ad-! ministrative work was settled,, and it was decided to make advances on a basis that would, be new in the Do- 1 minion as regards meat. It was reported that there were quite a number of shipments of dairy produce already, made, and steps were being > taken to send forward initial shipments of meat, Mr W. D. Lysnar read a letter from Mr G. P. Donnelly, who has just returned from a trip to England, in. which""fie says: "When at Home I made it my business to visit and asked the 1 High Commissioner to allow Mr Oabbe, the Government veterinary surgeon and agent, to accompany me which he did. After going over the Bristol docks I can safely say there is no comparison as far as the handling of frozen meat and produce is / concerned. The accommodation for' trans-shipping could; not be better at Bri&tol, andTif they, carry out further improvements in the accommodation,, which I was informed they intend doing, it will,be 'everything that, is re- | quired for our frozen 'meat and other products. I was more than surprised at the handling of frozen meat at the other docks in London. After all those years of the shipping of frozen meat, it is surprising to see the primitive 'way in which the work done. I actually found them running the frozen meat from three to five carcases at a time on hand trollies for a distance of from two to three chains to the railway trucks, in dust arid dirt, consisting of horse droppings arid other refuse. As you are aware the wheels are riot above 9 / inches from the ground. There is no doubt that our going into this matter has giv'en them a great shock, and tliey now talk of going in for very large improvements. It clearly goes to prove that all yon have said was quite justifiable to the shippers in the Dominion."
