INTIMIDATION.
PATROLLING THE CITY. WELLINGTON, Last Night. At a meeting of the Wellington Employers', Farmers",, and Citizens' Defence Committee to4day, the position of the workers in the .'Suburbs was considered, and the following resolution was carried 1 : "That the attention of the authorities be drawn to the fact that a large amount of intimidation of workmen, and especially of drivers and their households, is still going on, and also to the necessity for patrolling all the principal suburban areas throughout the day and night, and that this be arranged for.as soon as possible." A well-planned system Is now in operation with the force of special constables, with the result that; while possible outbreaks are guarded against, the men are relieved from unnecessary duty for some days. The system has been followed of placing more troops in many localities. Each troop can keep in touch with the other troops readily, with the result that should a cart Fe stuck up, it would not be held up for long, assistance always being near at hand. This system of patrols has to-day been extended, so that there is indeed little likelihood of any disturbance Becoming serious. The difficult and laborious work of escorting drays is not undertaken, though of course, if any particular danger was anticipated, it could bo arranged" for to meet the special cases.
