THE COAL SUPPLY.
AT THEMASTERTON GASWORKS
It is estimated that there is only, a. sufficient ooal supply at the Masterton gasworks to serve the town for lighting and motive power for another three weeks. The Mayor {Mr J. Mi Ooradine) visited Wellington this week and interviewed the Prime Minister and other Ministers, together with the managers of the various coal companies, relative to the situation. He ascertained that there are very remote prospects of work at the coal mines being resum* ied before Christmas. Many cities and towns in the Dominion are in a very serious position in regard to coal. Mr Qoradine told an Ape representative yesterday . that he was hopeful that the difficulty in regard to this town would be got over, but he had no definite assurance on, the subject. The Mayor learned that the railways have a sufficient supply of coal to keep the services open foe several months.
