ACID STOMACHS ARE DANCEROUS. COMMON-SENSE ADVICE BY A DISTINGUISHED SPECIALIST. . "Acid" stomachs are dangerous because acid irritates and inflames tlie delicate lining of the stomach, thus hindering and preventing the proper action of the stomach, and leading to nine-tenths of the cases of stomach trouble from winch people suffer. Medicines <u>d medicinal treatments are useless in such cases, for they leave the source of the trouble, the acid in the stomach, as dangerous as ever. The acid must be neutralised, and its formation prevented, and the best thing for this purpose is half a teaspoonful of bisurated magnesia, a simple anti-acid, taken in a little warm or cold water after eating, which not only neutralises the acid, but also prevents the fermentation from which acidity is developed. Foods which ordinarily cause great-; est distress can be eaten with impunity if the meal is followed: \jrfth a little bisurated magnesia, which can. be obtained of any and should always be kep't handy.
THEN AND NOW. For despondency there is no letter| antidote" than to , take a measure of vour.iown community as it was ten years ago and as it is now —unless ymi live in an unrepresentative and stagnant community. You will be JifreJy to find the roads or the streets better than they were; the railroad service much improved; the postal service, possibly even the telegrapli and the telephone service; you will observe better houses, more attractive grounds; the people are better' clad, or tnore are well clad. Inside their houses you will find more books and more bathrooms, better light and better furniture. A larger proportion of children and youth are receiving good training at better schools. All this means more than, prosperous years. It means a. higher level of life and a stronger, ambition. Tho well-being of the people is rising higher and especially is it itself wider. Life is constantly becoming more comfortable and more* cheerful as well as longer and safer—r leading to better conditions for intellectual growth and social development.
