SPECIAL SERIOUSLY ASSAULTED.
ATTACKED IN A HOTEL. TWO OF HIS ASSAILANTS ARRESTED. WELLINGTON. Last Night. . A serious assault on a special mounted constable named Kilcuddie was made in Barrett's Hotel this afternoon, and caused a large crowd to congregate in Lambton. quay. . The special, who had been giving evidence this morning, was returning to the Buckle street barracks iir company with another special". They went into Barrett's 011 their way, and called for drinks. There' were five other men in the bar at the time, and just as the special constables turned to go out one of the men 'shouted, ''There's a" scab!" Another of tlie five (a bigger man) raised a glass and threw it with considerable force at -Kilcuddie, with the words, "Take that you !" The glass struck the constable on the cheek, inflicting an ugly jagged wound. The injured man was removed to a chemist'ss shop on Lambton quays where a doctor was summoned to put ■some stitches in the wound. Two of the men alleged to he concerned in the affair were arretted by the police.
