ACTIVITY IN SHIPPING. j UNLOADING AND LOADING. J WELLINGTON, Last Night. After a long spell of idleness, the Jervois quay wharf assumed normal conditions to-day. Berthed alongside were the Home steamer Marere (Tyser Line) and the Union Company's cargo carrier Kaiapoi. The former vessel has from 1200 to 1400 tons of cargo to put out, and of this some 500 tons has been unloaded. A large quantity of cargo is offering from the Kaiapoi, to sail for New Plymouth as soon ae loaded. All the morning lorries and waggons loaded, with kerosene, matches, and general merchandise kept driving alongside the vessel, and the goods were slung into the holds as expeditiously as possible. On Saturday the vessel discharged about 4000 bags of cement. The coastal steamer Rapuni, at No. 5 wharf, brought a cargo of cheese from Patea to be transhipped to the Rimutaka, and this was being unloaded to-day. Six hundred bales of wool from Wariganui were unloaded from the Arapawa. On the other wharves the scene was also animated, £?Te following vessels (in addition to those already mentioned) being worked: Mapourika, Aorere, Opawa, Himitangi, Putiki, I Ivalni, Athenic, -Rimutaka, Dorset |uid Stormb'irdr In order to conserve the coal during the present strike, the Kelburne cable trams are now running a curtailed service.
