"Kidnapping Father" was a Labia feature comedy in winch Miss Ormi Hawley wag prominent. Other humorous items were "The Handsome Artist," and "A Box of Canino Mischief." There will bo a grand matinee at 2.;';> on Saturday. For Saturday's change the management announce the screening of the big Lubin feature play entitled ''The .District-Attorney's Conscience."

AT THE TOWN HALL
Professor Braemar and Ids Variety Company opened a three-nights' season in the 'Master-ton Town Hall last evening. Prior to tin- entertainment, a procession of local bands and motorcars paraded the main streets, and attracted no little attention, and no doubt assisted in attracting a large audience to the Town Hall. The performance was bright, interesting, and amusing,' the hypnotic performances of the professor, and his assistants creating a great deal of amusement, several of the acts in this section of the programmo being new to Masterton theatre-goers. ."Down on thfr Farm" proved an item of great lnugliter-rau iin SP owors ' nna the audience was kept > i< simmer of merriment 'fliC -J'!°' m sescSm ß HwTCi oy a recent arrival from America, proved a very pleasing number, and the artist, wlio shows groat ability with the king of instruments, was called upon to respond to several encores. Mysto takes the role of the youthful magic- • ian, and some of bis mysterious acts were well worth witnessing . Madame Doreos proved highly entertaining, and kept the audience in a state of mystified wonder, as the result of her efforts in the mystic art. The entertainment, supported by good music, proved altogether enjoyable, arid a® the company will appear this evening and again to-morrow night, large audiences .-.may be expected to pay a visit to the Town Hall.
"THE SMART SET."
The "Smart Set" will commence their season on Monday next at the Town Hall \mder the direction of Mr Walter George and Mr Maynard Dakin, who are making an extended tour of the.Dominion having recent' completed a two months' season at the Wellington- Town Hall, where they have been delighting large audiences. The "Smart Set" are a, combination organised for the past 10 years—during which they have visited many countries in the four quarters of the globe. Mr'Maynard Dakin, the popular comedian, who has previously visited the Dominion, is now associated with this company, both in the management and on the stage, and brings with him a large budget of the very latest song's; monologues, cdncerted gems, character sketches, and musical nurnbers, which so popularised him when he was here -with the English Pierrots* The novel methods adopted by the "Smart Set" as a mea-fls of introducing their musical fare are attributes which* liATe elicited favourable comment fro';n the press in the many countries visited by this company. The fun and merriment is headed by Mr Dakin, who is one of London's most versatile and refined society entertainers. A firstclass programme of high standard and excellence, will be presented, consisting of original •Ir.imorous songs, duets, trios, quartets, and ventriloqtiial items, in which "Sunshine James" plays an important part in the hands of Mr Edward Elliott, who manipulates the mechanical figure. Concerted numbers form the principal featuro of their performance, and although'a strong element of humour pervades, it is essentially musical throughout. The "Smart Set" are credited with being the originators of the Costume Comedy Companies, and the name is registered by them. The box plan is now open at the Dresden.
