The. death is announced of Dr Locking, of Napier. The' Bishop of Wellington held a confirmation service at Mangatainoka this week.
Sir George Davies, ex-Speaker of the Legislative Assembly in Tasmania, is dead.
The deatji is reported of Mrs C. Bills, semr., an' old and respected settler of Otaki, who has relations in the Wairarapa.
A London cable announces the death of Lady. Strathcona, wife of Lord Strathcona, High Commissioner for Canada.
Mr Hill, assistant manager of the Bristol and Dominions Producers' Association, was on a visit to Eketahuna on Wednesday, Mr William Perry, of Penrose, Masterton, who has been on a visit, to the' Old Country, is expected to return in the course of a few days. Mr Alfred Dillon; formerly M.P. for Hawke's Bay, is lying eeriously ill at his home at Patangata. An operation was to. have been performed on Wednesday. The death is recorded of Taufa Mere Lata, formerly a pupil of the Wanganui Girls' College, and the heroine of an Auckland-Fiji romance, at the age of 21 years. Messrs G. Hyde, R. J. King, and oilier members of the Opaki Rifle Club who" have been competing at the Rangitikei rifle meeting, returned to Masterton yesterday morning. The death is announced from-Na-pier of Mr R. H. Lucas, who arrived in Tsapier from Now South Wales about 20 years ago. For the lust VI yearn he was publisher of the Haw ko's Bay Herald. He was a. wellknown Freemason.
Mr Walter Scott, who has been on the staff of the Masterton Borough Council for about nine.years, has accepted a similar position with the Gi&borne. Borough Council. Mr and Mrs Scett and family left Masterton for Uifiborne yesterday. The remains of the late Mr David Crewe were interred in the. Pahiatua cemetery yesterday. The funeral cortege was very lengthy, and included representatives of every local and sports body in the district. The business places in the town were closed for two houre as a mark of respect.
A Press Association telegram from Auckland announces the death of Mr John Burns, liardware merchant, Auckland. Mr Burns was a contemporary of the late Mr John Chambers,'and both gentlemen went in largely for the importation of mining machinery, electrical appliances, and other mining accessories.
