THE NEW FEDERATION.
OBJECTION FROM GLSBOPJsE,
GISBQRNE, Last Night. A communication was .received by the secretary of the Gisborne Waterside Union (Mr W. Oass) from the Wanganui Executive, inquiring whether the local union endorsed the ac-* 0 f inviting tho new union at Wellington to affiliate with the Waterside Workers' Federation, which includes the Wanganui, .Napier, Gisbome and Bluff watersiders. A reply was sent back stating that the action was not approved of. Questioned on the niatter, Mr Casssaid ho fdared tho action would mean , the breaking tip of the Federation; He could not understand the action of the . executive, which practically meant that they were assisting to break up the strike. Ho die! not think the old union would remain in the Federation if the new unions, which were formed on tho spur of the moment by free, labour, came in: "Of course," lie'said, "I don't know; but it might -mean that the old unions will recede. The men hero do not approve of the idea." Asked as to whether, if tlfe unions did secede, they were likeM to join the Federation of Labour, Mr 1 Cass said ho did not think so; but they would simply "paddlo their own canoe."
