MASTERTON COUNTY COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING

The monthly meeting of the Masterton Coiiinty Council was held yesterday, there being present; Crs J). J. Cameron (in the chair), J. Miller, A. J Percy, H. Toogood, A. J. Patchett, anrl C. Cross. Mr August Johnsofy wrote, stating that he was prepared to advance £5 4s 4d in anticipation of thirds from Mr J. J. Corruline's leaseholds, for wideni'ng the road of access to their properties. The Castlepoint County Council wrote, that a conference in regard' to the reconstruction of bridges on the main road bo held at Timii on the 29th inst. Mr J. 0. Wrigley wrote, asking that a, series of questions relating to gates across roads in the Taueru Riding.—Or Miller stated that lie had heard of no complaints regarding tlie gates that wore on the road. Mr Wrigley lived three miles this side of any gate, and he com Id not suffer any inconvenience. —On the motion of Cr Toogood, it was decided that the letter bo received and lie upon the table. Mr Henry Bennett wroto in reference to the legalising of Fernglen road, and also acknowledging the receipt of two tracing's. , Messrs W. 1). Watson, Percy Bros., E. J. Wright, and A. H. Tinkliam requested the council to re-form tho road lending to their properties from the Avemlo Road, and to metal as much' of Hie road ■as possible, as it was almost impassable for light traffic in tho winter time.—The matter was left in the hands' of Cr Percy Olid the engineer to deal with. The Under-Secretary of t)io Public Works Department intimated that there wag no record of Lett's road plans having been received in tho Public Works Office, or in the District Engineer's Office, Pahiatua. The clerk to the Eketahuiia 'County. Council wrote, asking the optvncil to put the Tawataia road in repair. — Cr Cross said he considered letter impertinent. It was are -echo of letters previously addressed to tlie council. Cr Cross stated pr Patchett and himself, with tho' •engineer, had been authorised to expend monev on this road, and tli«y were so.—On the motion of Cr Cross, seconded, by Cr it was decided to inform the Ek<p.>huna County thaft the jexpenditiji'e of money allocated for this road had been authorised. E. Svkfts, M.P., approving the action of the Legislative Council in striking the clause out of the Bill dealing with level. crossings.

• Th 6 report of the meeting of the Financo Committee was read. The treasurer reported as follows : —.General fund account dr. £2520 19s .|d loans to local bodies account ex. £152 4s 2d, accounts,' dr. balance £1790 18s 6d; receipts since October 14th, £738 8s lOd. It was decided that, in connection with the proposed conference with tho Castlepoint County Council on tho subject of providing the cost of reconstructing tho bridges aver the Kalmmingi and Rorokoko streams on the Masterton-Waimata road, and the letter from that body suggesting that the conference be held at Tinui on November 29th, the representatives of the ■Masterton County Council are unable to arrange to meet in Tinui, and thereforo request that the Castlef joint representatives shall fix a date for meeting in Masterton, and that they bo adviseel by the clerk when a reply from the Castlepoint v County clerk is received.

A. letter from the County engineer, together with a statement of the cost of running tho County motor-car for-twelve months, were laid before the committee, and a lengthy discussion took place on the subject, during the course of which Cr Cross intimated that' he proposed giving notice df a motion to bo made at the next, meeting of the Council in this connection. It was decided that tho engineer's letter be laid on the council table, pending the consideration of a, notice of motion to be given by Cr Cross. 1

In regard to the cost of a road grader, it was decided tliat the representatives of tho Alfredton and Upper Taueru ridings should confer with a view to arriving at some satisfactory settlement of the matter in dispute. On the motion of Cr Miller, it was resolved that no further action be taken on the resolution of Aughst J.Bth, 191*2, relating to the purchase 'of horses and carts for use in the Alfred ton and Upper Taueru ridings without first conferring with the 1 mover.
