MONKS' HOSPITALITY TO BIRDS.

The monks of St. Bernard's monastery in tho Alps have lately been extending to birds the hospitality which they offer to travellers overtaken by storm, the Mail says. During a heavy snowstorm they saw a dense black cloud of migrating swallows approach. Immediately all the windows of 'the monastery were opened, and a, few moments later halls and cells were filled with thousands of half-frozen birds. There the little travellers spent the night in safety, and when the dawn broke calm and clear next morning they Hew through the open windows and set out once more on their long journey to the South.
