'Time*'—'Sydney Sun' Special Cables. (Received Last Night, 5.5 o'clock.) MEXICO CITY, November 7. The American fleet in Mexican waters is regarded as a naval demonstration. There are nine American warships at .Vera Cruz.
APPEAL TO FRANCE.

'Times'— 'Sydney Sun' Special Cables. (Received November 7, 8.30 a.m.) WASHINGTON, November 6. President Huerta asked France to intervene, but the latter declined, pending a declaration of United States policy. .. President Wilson reiterates that mi litary intervention by the United States is not contemplated. He refuses to fctate whether Huerta has replied to the latest note. It is known that fears of the jingoistic attitude of may possibly force matters to a head. The Note sent is described as a penultimatum threatening an ultimatum in the event of the Huerta regime not being eliminated.
ATTEMPTED ASSASSINATION.
(Received Last Night, 5.5 o'clock ) NEW YORK, November 7. Havana reports state that General Felix Diaz has been stabbed. The injury is probably not fatal.

SEVERE WOUNDS INFLICTED
(Received-Last Nigl# 10.30 o'clock.) HAVANA, November 7. A Mexican, whose name is unknown stabbed General Diaz while the streets, inflicting about the head and shoulders. General Diaz was taken to the hospital. It is believed that the wound is mortal. His assailant was arrested. He refused to state the reason for the deed/ -
