A SPLENDID ACT.
Possibly thero has never been an instance in, the history of New Zealand in which the humane instinct of our settlers has been demonstrated iu such »,'. marked manner as in. the spontaneous offer, of the./sheep-farm-ers of the Wairarapa to guarantee the accounts-of the dairy companies at-the bank, so that the struggling dairy-farmer may not have to go without his monthly-cheque. It has frequently been statedby ',. ignorant people ■ that there id ' no' community of. interest between the large and the small-former, and tha€ the former has no sympathy whatever for the latter The action" of the sheep-farmers in the present industrial crisis has given that" statement an emphatic contradiction. The magnificent offer to guarantee the overdrafts of dairy companies will stand for all time as a monument to the noble character of those who, by their thrift and industry, have placed themselves in positions of affluence.
