THE SHEARERS.
TO WORK AND PAY STRIKE LEVY, WELLINGTON, Last Night. A statement in regard to the position o:f the Sljear&rs' Association was made late this afternoon by the secretary (Mr M. Laracy). He said they had been waiting anxiously for a settlement of the strike. During the Ifiist week he had received numerous telegrams from shearers all over the Dominion, asking if tliey should strike. He had advised them not to, but now it was finally stated that they could not get a settlement, he had sent the following telegrams: "To the Secretary Australasian Workers' Union, Sydney.—Keep shearers and* all labour awa,y from >laorilaad. A fight to a finish here LA RACY." Aprovious telegram had been sent, preparing Sydney men for this. He had ako wired to the executive of the Shearers' Association, cQßTeyu'g the following motion.
which he would move: "That the shearers continue to work and strike a levy of £1 per week, acid general bauds ss, while in work during stri[ce_ time. Fighting to a finish here." To all shed representatives throughout .New Zealand, he had wired : "Keep going, and pay the levy, Our mates will require it all, and don't take notice of Mulga wires.— LAIIACY,"
