Sir Philip Magnus, presiding at a meeting of the London University Zionist Society, said he recognised that the possible danger of the Jews being gradually assimilated by the nations amongst whom they dwelt, was largely due to the prevalent in--difference to religion and the increasing number of mixed marriages. He suggested stimulating the idea of exercising a centripetal force, tending to bind the Jews together, and this would possibly be found in an " * Endeavour to develop Jewish culture. /-.Some centre would be needed in ~ Jerusalem where there was the finest literature which, he said,, had a v.. greater influence on the world than ' any other, had been produced, was an ideal place. Other speakers supported a Hebrew University on the lines of the London University
