NELSON PRODUCE.
APPEAL TO PRIME MINISTER. PRECAUTIONS ON RAILWAYS. WELLINGTON, Last Night. Representations have been made to the Prime Minister by Mr Atmore, member for Nelson, that the strike is seriously affecting the producers of that district, who are -unable, under the present condition of things, to get their produce brought to the mo- | tropolis, as the Nelson boats are not i carrying cargo. He therefore urged that the Government steamers should be put on to! bring such produce over at regular intervals. The Hon. W. W, F. Massey informed Mr Atmore that the boats would first of all be utilised for the carriage of mails in the event of an emergency. Otherwise, the matter would have his consideration. The chief clerk of the Railway Department (Mr R.. W- McVilly) told a reporter that while attaching no importance to the many wild rumours circulated with regard to interference with the various! tracks, the Department was watohing things very closely, and the travelling public could rest assuredthat every preraution for safe transport was. being taken.
