Even if they were on full pay, said the officers, there was mo question of their coming out in sympathy with the Federation of Labour. They continued that if free labour is brought in to work the vessels,

they fully intended to carry out their duty. The following wire was sent to Captain Watson: "Cannot agree with resolution passed as reported in Dunedin paper, and cannot understand your attitude in sympathising with the Federation of Labour. Nor are we prepared to come out.—Taviuni, Corinna, Maitai, Kamona." I
