DEALING WITH RED FEDS.
A PALMERSTON METHOD. PALMERSTON N„ Last Night. It was exacted that two Federation leaders would deliver addresses in the square last night, .and a crowd of about a thousand congregated, the rumour, having spfsad of preparations for, a warm reception for them or anyone else attempting disparaging comments upon the men going to Wellington to work the boats or help to keep order. A motor car was ready to run such individuals to a distant j and lonely part of the district, whence it would take a long and weary trudge to get back to civilisation. The sneakers, however, did not turn up. . Two or three individuals essayed an excited condemnation of "scabs," but were quickly hustled good-natur-edly, One man displayed great fleet-ne-ss of foot. The other two were taken to tlio square pond, but "their yells'-fbr police assistance led to the intervention of the police. Three trainlonds of special constables passed through during this afternoon, en route for Wellington. They also picked up /several here. About twenty Fe'derationists made a demonstration, hooting at £he station, but the police maintained order, and a huge crowd* of people laughed at and tolerated them.
One liugo "special" went fpr «a big Federation : ,st who used an insulting epithet, but Inspector Marsack persuaded him to leave him alone. At the Wilding station the Federationists were dealt with by the specials.
