WATERSIDERS OUT EVERYWHERE.

LATEST FROM WELLINGTON

A QUIET DAY. BAIN CLEARS THE STREETS. ARRIVAL OF WAIRARAPA CONTINGENT. WELLINGTON, Last Night. Matters along the waterfront, and in the city, were very quiet to-day. Only a few police were in evidence, and none of these were mounted. The Post Office Square was less patronised by the general public, though & number of people congregated here and there, and in the later part of the day were occasionally addressed by labour leaders. ~ The only excitement was provided by rushes towards the Lambton station, as a. result of rumours that free labourers were arriving by train, but in each case those who had anticipated some frolic with the "specials" were disappointed. About 4 o'clock rain began to and this had the effect of thinning out the.crowds in the streets. About 6 o'clock 148 men from the Wairarapa arrived at the Lower Hutt and' detrained. . After about an hour's delay these men mounted their horses and set out for Wellington. They parsed through Petone at a smart canter, and were subjected to some boo-hooing, but otherwise no demonstration occurred. The exact objective of this party 'e unknown at present. i j t ! j
