WAIRARAPA RESPONDS.
FIRST CONTINGENT OF "SPECIALS." A HEARTY SEND-OFF. The first contingent of Wairarapavolunteers for service in Wellington was despatched by special train yesterday mprning. About forty mounted men, includiug several farmers and stationliolders, entrained at Master ton. The scene at the local railway station was animated, a large crowd of the public having assembled to give the men a hearty send-off. There was a mild demonstration as the train drew out from the station, vociferous cheers being given for the "specials." Another large contingent was picked up at Carterton, and a further batch at Featherston, making over one hundred in all. Further contingents are being organised, and will be despatched today and on Monday.
