NEW ZEALAND CUP.
Quite the most interesting feature of the watersiders' strike, so far as it affects the sporting fraternity, is its relation to the great event of the Dominion, which takes place at Christchurch next Saturday. If the North Island horses are not shipped within the next two or three days, thoy will probably not compete in the New Zealand Clip, and tho interest in that event will be small indeed. It is quite possible, of course, that free labour may be employed by Monday, in which case some of the horses may be got away. Owners, however, would probably not care to take the risk of having their horses knocked about on the wharves. There is just a remote chance that the strike will be terminated within three or four days. It is only » chance, and upon that chance appeals to depend the success, or otherwise, of the New Zealand Chip meeting. W-e have not heard of the bookmakers offering to become free labourers, or praying that the strike will terminate.
