A SPLENDID EFFORT.
The settlers of the Wairarapa have responded in a magnificent manner to the appeal for horses and men to proceed to Wellington to assist the police in maintaining law and order, and to protect the transport services of the Dominion. In a few hours a body of stalwart fellows, including a number of settlers themselves, liave been got together in readiness to proceed to the ci%. The first contingent will bo dispatched to-day, and others will follow. The President; and Secretary of the Farmers' Union have worked like Trojans, and their efforts have been ably seconded by settlers throughout the district. The seriousness of the situation is now fully realised, and it behoves every patriotic citizen to use his best endeavour to put an end to the present intolerable position.
