GENEE AND THE IMPERIAL RUSSIAN DANCERS.
The unqualified success which marked the opening of Mdlle. Genee's tour of New Zealand at His Majesty'e Theatre, Auckland, is a happy augury for a similar triumph for the great dancer when she appears in Masterton to-morrow evening., In Auckland the theatre was crowded at every performance, and great enthusiasm prevailed. Messrs J. OV Williamson, Ltd., announce that, the Masterton programme will include the great classic ballet "Les Sylphides," which is intended to be 1 the realisation of the dream that passed before the mental .vision of Chopin as he was composing the music which-isia-cidental to, the ballet. The music in-?, eludes the well Kawn> Nwturne an 4 Prelude as well as several, of the waltzes, notably the '^Waltz, in E Flat." and the "Waltz in A Flat:" "Les Sylpbides" is; 1 descjib&lif as •#, very poem of movement, and is pre}seated in a beautiful- woodland -'seir-.. ting, the stage being crowded with, dancers dressed in the oldrtime float-, ing skirts of snowy muslin. HtfdUe. Genee will appear as the First Sylph, and Mdlles; Halina Scbmolz and "Vla-j-sta Noyotna as the Second and Third i Sylphs, respectively, with M. Volinin [ representing the Spirit of Chopin. ,- I The second 1 part of the, programme will be opened with the performanee 'by the orchestra of the melodious "Barcarolle" from "Tales, .of Hoffmann," and then will be given ;i ?ong series of dances under the title of" "Divertissements,", including liae "Polka Violette/' by M, Volinin and Mdlle. Halima Schmolz. This is a delightfully graceful dance, ;and is said to have created a furore whenever those gifted artists presented it in London and- -New -York.<_ Another-V attractive feature is ' provided ,by - Mdlle. Halina Schmola,; who will iippear in the "Dying Swan" with *'st k Saen'e" "La Cygne,"'played by" the orchestra. Other dances include a humorous "Chines© Dance," the "Gipsy Beggar's Dance," by M. Volihin, the gavotte "Capid," by Malina SchmoLz, and the "Australian Soldier's Dance" by Mdlle. Novotna and Zalowska. The third part of the programme will be devoted to the famous ballet "Coppelia," which is descrbed as a quaintly humorous comedy in two acts, and is said to reveal Genee at the highest pinnacle of her art.
