CONTINUES AT LISBON.
PLOT"AGAINST REPUBLIC
(Received Last Night, 10 o'clock.) LONDON, October 22.
The Daily Express's correspondent at Lisbon states that the reign of tenor continues. A whispered word in a cafe is enough to consign the suspect to an underground cell. Posted letters are opened. Carbonari are concocting plots against the republio for the purpose of demolishing it, and then receiving liberal, payment for the results of their work.
MONARCHIST MOVEMENT
A COMPLETE FAILURE.
(Received Last Night, 10 o'clock.) LISBON, October 22.
A Government circular to the Powers, states, that. the Monarchists attempted a subversive movement, which, notwithstanding strong preparations, completely failed 1 . The railway line was cut and a number of telegraph lines interrupted.
Nobody connected with the army or navy participated. The Government is acquainted with the details of the conspiracy and will mete out due punishment to the ringleaders. -
REBELS DISPERSED
RINGLEADERS ARRESTED
(Received Last Night, 11 o'clock.) LISBON, October 22. Groups of armed men appeared at various centres at night time. Conflicts ensued, but the Government, being aware of the plot, were able to disperse the plotters and arrest the ringleaders, and" Restore order. " ■'- : ' The rebels destroyed two bridges.

The revolt was directed two committees, one civil and one "military. The signal for a general outburst was to be the murder of Ministers and officials, whereupon three columns, organised suburbs, were to take simultaneous action. Meanwhile Captain Continho, a French refugee, was waiting at the frontier. He had deposited arms in various parts of the country preparatory to simultaneous risings there. There Government's fore knowledge made suppression,~.of -the revolt easy. The police broke up a meeting in an embroidery workshop, and after a sharp struggle arrested aU the conspirators, who were arranging to rescue prisoners in the civil prison. Several of the arrested occupy high social positions .including army and navy officers. . The chief quartermaster at Qmmaraes committed suicide witji a revolver w?len he was arrested. The Monarchist leaders, including Moreira and Almeida, fled.
