CORRESPONDENCE.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —I would like to know what steps the Castlepoint County are taking re the Mangapakeha bridge, which is unsafe for traffic. This bridge has been examined by councillors and overseers and found unsafe for traffic. This is over a month ago, and still nothing has been done,; What is the cause of the delay? We,\ the backb'loeks cookies, have to get our stores >in the summer months, but now we are compelled to ge,t theißu-by boat from Wellington at a greater expense. "Why don't the ratepayers of this county wake up and see the injustice that ha.s been done to them? Why not call a meeting of the ratepayers and see what can be done in this matter ? Are the councillors afraid to face the ratepayers ? The. money that is foolishly wasted would have built a new ! bridge. A man now is getting paid to stay at the bridge day and night. Lamps are also kept burning, and, j in my opinion, there is no need for lighting the Mungapakeha township Up. This bridge has been up for over ] 35 years, and it is a disgrace to any ! county council to have let it get into I this deplorable state. There must be j carelessness somewhere, when you i come to think that this bridge has only been examined once in thirtyfive years, t think it would be just as well to have all the other bridges ] in this county thoroughly overhauled. Thanking you in anticipation for the space in your valuable paper.—l am, etc. , DISGUSTED. Tinui, October 17, 1913.
