ALLEGED VICTIMISATION

(To the Editor.) Sir,—l would like to draw the, attention of your readers to the actions of some of the sheep-owners in this district. Clause 20 of the shearers' award says that no employer shall, in the engagement or dismissal of men, discriminate agaiiust membocs of the union. Some glaring cases ot discrimination have taken place this season. Of course no squatter of any repute cares to risk his personal dishonour by committing a "breach of the award. 'Therefore, he employs an intermediary, to whom personal profits may be everything, and; personal honour nothing. Having sub-let that disagreeable part of the business, the eminently respectable, law abiding squatter can wear a halo of sanctity with a cheerful confidence that the other part of the business is being carried out by persons of no refutation whatever. Labour organisations have been accused of having adopted a "to hell with agreements" oolicy. It would be interesting to know where the Sheep-owners' Association consign their broken agreements to. —I am, etc., ROD McRAE. Masterton, October 18, 1913. [lf there have been cases of victi'viisation, as alleged, these should be reported to the Registrar of Awards —Ed. Age.]
