BELGIAN CHAMPIONSHIP
(Received Last Night, 5.5 o'clock.) BRUSSELS, Oct. 18. Tom Ball won the Belgian open championship with a score of 145. Braid made 146, and Duncan (the holder) 151.
CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) DCNEDIN, Last Night. The golf championship meeting was concluded yesterday in favourable weather conditions. The contest m the final "between Dr Ross and B. B. Wood for the Amateur Championship was a very fin<? one. Ross did not play quite up to his form in the morning, and was 3 down at the cloj3e of the first eighteen holes. In the seoond round he played a steady Jiole-to-toole with his opponent, and was not finally beaten till tho fourteenth :green was reached. In the afteinoon he halved i&e (first hole, lost I ithe second, and wontthe third. Wood took the fourth with a brilliant 3, but lost the next, playing shockingly. The sixth to twelfth were all "halved in solid play, but Wotod got the thirteenth with a tfine putt, .and Ross made a poor second to the Ji&xt green, while Wood got the green and Jay well for two. lies beat Clements in the ProfessionaK Match. Both players gave a fine exhibition, 'but the last Tiole was disappointing. The matcfh was square at the seventeenth green. Both had good -seconds up to the last "hole. lies holed out in 4, "but Clements missed a six-foot putt for a win, and then failed to hole out a twofoot putt for a 'half. After the matches were over, Sir James Mills, Presient of the (Hago Golf Club, presented the prizes won during the competition, and congratulatory speeches were made.
