EXPECT WINS HANDICAP. SUCCESSFUL DAY'S RACING. The Spring Meeting-of the Masterton Racing Club was held at Opaki yesterday. Notwithstanding the fact that the weather was \ unfavourable, showers falling all day, the club had a record meeting, the sum of £14,101 being handled on the machine against £9744 last year. The chib and secretary, who is largely responsible for the success of the meeting, are to be heartily congratulated on the very great success which attended the fixture. Favourites were very .successful during the da 3% 110 less than five prevailing. Ah inquiry was held after the Spring Handicap and resulted in R. Berry, the rider of Matlow, being fined £1() for crossing Leonta. Altogether the meeting will be looked back upon as one of the most successful in the history of the club, and may be regarded as auguring exceptionally well for the future ' of the club. Bell on Rosalys was the first to show out and led from Guiding Way and Sunrose to 'the straight.
