The results were aa Follow:—• Welter-weight , (four ■ rounds) L. Mexted 10.2 (Masterton) v. F. Ritchie 10.3 > (Tenui). —The first / round was willing enough, but was lacking in the finer points. Mekted did most of the leading, and had rather the best of matters. Mexted used the straight left rather well, and this gave him the advantage. The second round was in favour of Ritchie, who forced to the fact, and in the latter stages had Mexted very tired. Ritchie's right swings to the body connected on more than one occasion. Th 6 third round was, well .contested, both contestants landing & few hits, wffl&i, however, had little effect. The filial round, saw 1 some willing fighting. Both were very ticed, but Mested had the better condition, and gained the verdict, which was well received. Bantam-weight (four rounds) W. Olliver 8.3 (Taranaki) v. H. prechner i 8.0 (South Africa). —Olliver commenced well, connecting with a good left, but Prechner.showed fairly clever fence, and in the latter stages used his right with good effect. Prechner had a good deal the best of the sec-1 ®nd round. He ivas responsible-for all the leading/ and used a right swing with good effect. Olliver ed to tire towards the end; of the\ round. The third round wos .mtore even, Olliver connecting with several good lefts. Towards* the end of the round Prechner forced to the face, and scored points with clever left and right swings. The final rotund was very well contested. Olliver went down for eight seconds, but fac&d the music before the gong went. Prech- • ner did some good fighingt.. Olliver connected .with : one ortwo rights, which seemed fo have'littfe^ 1 The referee's decision was in favour of Olliver, and was received with a/mixed reception, ■. . Light-weight (four rounds) : 0. 01sen 9.-12 (Mastertoii) v. P. Reid 10.0 (Carterton).—This bout only went a few seconds, Reid being knocked put. Qlsen's left uppercuts and right swings proved top much for Reid., Professional contest, for a purse of £SO and welter-weight championship of New Zealand; fifteen rounds: Denny Murphy 10.6' (holder) v. Pitto Chapman 10.6. v The opening round was ajil in favour of Mtirphy, although there was not a great deal of fighting. Murphy, used, his right with good effect, but did j appear to put much energy behind his blows.

In the second round Chapman improved. but Murphy seemed to anticipate his hits. Murphy connected with i several straight lefts, but the American went to his corner seeming none the worse. Both men mixed it freely in th'e third. Chapman landed one good right to the body, while Murphy used his loft with good effect. The was Murphy's. > The fourth round was again Mtn - - phy's. He used the right and left upper-cut with good effect, and had[ Chapman on the ropes when the gong went. ' In the fifth round Chapman took a lot of punishment, Murphy using both hands freely, his upper-cuts being well-timed, while a heavy right swing connected with the jaw towards the end of the round. Chapman took hi si punishment well. Murphy had now ia good lead. The seventh round proved the undoing of Chapman. He was tiring badly and Murphy hit him when and where he wished. Chapman went down for eight seconds early in the round froim a heavy right upper-cut, and later went down for nine seconds just as the gong went. Hie eighth round was not-of long duration, Chapman failing to stop a j nght cross, went to the boards for v -ight seconds. On" resuming, Chapman again went down, as the result \ if a straight left , followed by a . right j swing. This time the referee I - topped the fight; and awarded the j honours to Murphy, who was loudly • .'pplauded. Chapman put up a game i l ight, hut had no chance with Murl>hv. whni showed great cleverness, „ ivliile Lii cdiidition was far superior.
