NEW LAND DISCOVERED.
NORTH OF SIBERIA. 'Times'—'Sydney Sun' Special Cables. (Received. Oct. 15, 8.30 a.m.) ST. Oct. 14. A Russian exploring party has discovered a new land north of Siberia, extending for two hundred miles in a north-west direction to latitude 81 deg. north, .longitude 96deg. east. CAPTAIN SVERDRUP'S OPINION. (Received Oct. 15, 1 p.m.) JUNEAU (Alaska), Oct. 14. Captain Sverdrup, commander of Dr Naasen's Arctio exploration ship, thinks the story of the reported discovery of a new Arctic continent is untrue. Dr Nansen, he says, drifted .' over the area discovered, and found nothing, but water. Small islands might have been found, but any extensive area should have been discovered long ago. v
