WOOL TRAFFIC.

From a Masterton point of view, it is unfortunate that, the frail condition of a bridge in the Mangapakeha Valley should compel the diversion of the whole of this season's wool traffic from the East Coast to Castlepoint. The relations between the. Mastertott and Castlepoint Counties over road and bridge maintenance have been unsatisfactory' for; some years past. Had the local authorities done their duty,; the bridge referred to would not have been allowr ed to get into ite present state of disrepair. It seems, however, that the multiplicity of Counties is not only responsible for one-third of the ratepayers' money going in administrative expenses, but is the cause of a great deal of unnecessary bungling. The sooner an amendment of the Counties Act is made to bring about an amalgamation of the smaller counties, the better it will, be for the country as a whole.
