STUMP EXTRACTION.
A PAINLESS OPERATION.
BY MEANS OF "ERUPTITE."
The New! Zealand Loan and Mercantile' Agency Co., Ltd., Masterton, nnder the supervision of Colonel " . Loveday, of Wellington, gave a series ..of demonstrations of the explosive qualities of "Eruptite" on Messrs Clark Bros', farm at Kopuaranga on Thursday last. Four very solid stumps, with extended roots, were selected and eight pounds of "Eruptite" were used in all, at a cost of atyut 6s- 6d. , Two very ugly stumps', under which about 2lbs to 2ilbs of "Eruptite" was applied, were completely uprooted and broken, two pieced weighing about scwt each, being "aeroplaned" away about 15yds and 17yds respectively from their origbu& Rearing. In another case, about 2ilbß of "Eruptite" was inserted under a big stump with very* extended roots, and so great was the concussion that it lifted up about one-third - of the stump to the full extension of its roots, and the stump then fell back into"position, again being, however, absolutely uprooted. The safety of this explosive was also demonstrated •* T>y the application of lighted matches, without any signs of danger. Colonel Loiveday, before leaving,, asked those i" ii»?esent if they Were perfectly satisfied with the demonstration, to which Jhe received .a hearty response in the affirmative. Dry4en, and several others, and any of the above can verify the description of the demonstration given above.
