MASTERTON LAWN TENNIS CLUB.

ANNUAL REPORT. Tlio following is the report to be presented at the annual meeting of the Masterton Lawn Tennis Club, to bo held on Wednesday, October 15th :

The committee have pleasure in presenting the report and balancesheet for the season 1912-13. As uiembers will note from the balancesheet, the club managed to carry through the seasoin under review with a credit balance, notwithstanding that the new fence was responsible for an outlay of £22. and the purchase of a new light roller and lawn mower, costing £6 each respectively. The club, in terms of the notice of motion given for the last annual general meeting, became registered under the "Incorporated Societies Act, 1908."

During the 'season the Pahiatua Club challenged and succeeded in regaining the Country Cup, which we had won from them the previous year, and other matches were played against the Eketahuna and Mangapakuha Clubs. For the eighteenth consecutive year the Club again conducted the Wairarapa Open Championship and Handicap Tournament, which, owing to the large number of competitors, tooik three days to complete. The tournament was pronounced to be one of the most successful and enjoyable yet held, though from a financial point the profit shows a big decline on that of the previous year, viz., 1911-12, £2l 18s lid; 1912-13, £5 10s 2d.

. The club's thanks are due to the following for , donations towards the tournament: Messrs W. H. Beetham, J. L. Blundell, 0. A. Cameron, D. Caselberg, W. B. Chennells, D. M. Graham, A. Henderson, Dr Archer Hosking, A. B. Lawrence, Jas. Macara, F. G. Maunsell, Hugh Morrison, Very Rev. Dean MeKenna, V.G., L. S. Nicol, H. H. Pavitt, G. W. Sellar, A. J. Stone-Wigg, A. P. Whatman, and W.F.0.A., Ltd. The club suffered a severe loss? during the past season through the, death oif Mr N. B. Bunting, one of its vicepresidents, who for many years had filled the position of honorary secretary with conspicuous success. It was largely due to the energy and enthusiasm of Mr Bunting that the olub was able fco obtain its present courts, and exists on its present sound lines.

With a view to keeping the ooiurts in the best possible condition, tlie committee have purchased a light roller, and would respectfully urge upon members the necessity of making every use of it during the ensuing season..

Mr A. J. Stone-Wigg was appointed vice-president in place of the late Mr Bunting. The club's thanks are due to Mr M. E. Denniston, of Wellington, for his services asi delegate to the Wellington Provincial Lawn Tennis Association, Mr G. C. Summerell for auditing the accounts, and Mr S. A. NobleCampbell for superintending the improvements to the grounds.
