THE NOME DISASTER.
HUNDREDS OF PERSONS HOMELESS. FOUR DEATHS. 1 (Received October 8, 11 a.m.) NOME (Alaska), October 7. The rich sand gold dredging area around Nome has been overwhelmed by the waves overflowing. The whole front of the city is in ruins. The fire is still burning, arid the people are suffering great hardships. Steamers are engaged taking off the victims.
The electric power plant has been wrecked.
The citizens were endeavouring throughout the night to save their belongings by the light of the burning houses. There is much suffering. A relief committee is aiding the sufferers, five hundred of whom are homeless. Four deaths have been reported.
