ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS.
IN HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

In reply to questions in the House of Representatives this afternoon, Ministers stated that the necessity of improving the quafity of (some of the cheese exported last season was freely recognised by the directorates of the dairy companies and also by the Government. The matter had been thoroughly gone into at many annual meetings of companies. There was every reason to believe that, as a result, the quality would show a considerable improvement. The matter of a Government contribution to the Captain Scott memorial fund will receive consideration when the supplementary estimates are being dealt with. Legislation already exists with regard to compulsory vaccination, but has not been enforced in late years.
Inquiries will be made into the alleged ineffectiveness of the lights at the Tory Channel entrance. The date on which the general electoral rolls will close in election year will receive consideration when, the Electoral Bill is before the House. Officers of the Defence Force sent Home to undergo training were not under an obligation to remain in the service on their return to the Dominion, but such an obligation would be imposed upon them for the future. The inspection of the institution at Roto Roa Island was now being carried out at regular intervals.
